Turn Ambition Into Sustainable Excellence
Turn ambition into sustainable excellence
Ambition is the spark. Excellence is the system.

My experience
In the later talks, I describe the Center of Excellence as my new north star. After not achieving what I hoped as a player, student and partner in important areas, I looked for another way forward.
My previous experiences with full training weeks and exhaustion, and subsequent conversations about team culture and the family business, broaden the question: what is needed not only to perform better but also to keep growing sustainably?
Based on what I myself told in coaching conversations (2023–2025), editorially summarized. The connection between these experiences is an editorial synthesis. Source: Transcript, p. 21–31 (belasting en herstel), 1038–1039 (feedforward en omgeving) en 1147 (Center of Excellence).
The essential lesson
Ambition determines the direction, but without good conditions the same ambition can be at the expense of your health, relationships and learning ability. Sustainable excellence connects focused work with recovery, structure, feedforward and an identity that does not depend on one result.
The core principle
Don't just build the performance. Build the person, habits and environment that make her possible.
Apply it
Reflection questions
- 1Where are you trying to push harder when you actually have to build better conditions?
- 2What is the weakest link in the system behind your greatest ambition?
- 3What do you need to develop, protect or let go?
Editorial reflection questions, derived from the principle.
Practical exercise
- Choose one ambition that matters to you. Answer one question for each of the five foundations: (1) Health: What helps me remain capable and well? (2) Recovery: When do I recharge? (3) Structure: What habit brings me closer to my goal? (4) Relationships: Who gives me support and connection? (5) Environment: Who gives me honest feedforward? Then choose one small change to make this week.
