About the book
The Unbreakable Mindset
How to Pursue Greatness Without Losing Yourself
The Unbreakable Mindset is written for anyone who dares to dream big and is willing to work hard for it — but also wants to understand the price ambition can ask.
Drawing on personal experiences from elite sport, injuries, setbacks, relationships and coaching, I explore how to pursue excellence without losing your humanity.
It is the book I wish I had read at eighteen: not only about how to become exceptionally good at what you do, but also about how to avoid losing yourself along the way.
With 42 principles and the Center of Excellence, the book offers a practical foundation for sustainable growth, recovery, self-knowledge and a life that is bigger than your performances.
The principle titles and core statements are editorial formulations, not direct quotes. The concept was originally developed under the working title The Unbreakable Player.
“Becoming unbreakable doesn’t mean you never break. It means learning how to rebuild without losing yourself.”
The central philosophy
Not about never breaking.
It is about accepting that we can break physically, emotionally or psychologically, learning how to recover, and continuing to build a meaningful life. Six dimensions, connected by one living philosophy.
Ambition
Dare to pursue extraordinary goals.
GRIT
Remain committed to meaningful long-term goals, even when circumstances require a different approach.
Experience
Put ideas into practice. Enter the arena. Learn by doing, making mistakes, reflecting and trying again.
Love
Build a meaningful life with genuine room for the people you love.
Friendship & Brotherhood
Grow with other people. Create bonds through shared experiences, mutual support and collective achievement.
Humility
Recognise that even after major achievements, there is always more to understand, more to learn and room to become a better person.
Never finished. Always becoming.
The principles offer direction, not perfection.
The signature journey
The 1% was the opportunity. The new 100% was the transformation.
From 1% to a New 100%“My first book was about discovering your potential. This book is about what I discovered along the way about the price of ambition — and how you can keep growing without losing yourself.”
The two sides of greatness
The exceptional player
- Ambition
- Competitive intensity
- Discipline
- Sacrifice
- High standards
- Resilience
- Pursuing difficult goals
What if true greatness requires both?
The good man
- Humility
- Compassion
- Integrity
- Faith
- Emotional honesty
- Relationships
- Responsibility toward others
Competitive intensity and humanity are not always in opposition. But elite ambition can create moments where you have to consciously decide how to honour both.
“I didn’t want to choose between being an exceptional player and being a good man. I wanted to learn how to become both.”

Who is this book for?
Written first for the ambitious eighteen-year-old — and for everyone who recognises themselves in him.
This book is, above all, something I wrote for myself — a reflection, written over the last five years, after intense setbacks and disappointments in almost every area of my life, personal and professional alike.
The primary inspiration is the young player with a big dream: willing to work hard and make sacrifices, but not yet aware of everything that ambition can ask of you.
The wider audience shares his determination, his expectations and his uncertainty.
Athletes, entrepreneurs, students, ambitious professionals and emerging leaders — the lessons were born in elite sport, but they are meant for anyone with an extraordinary ambition.
Two versions of myself
At the start of my hockey journey with the national team
This is the player I had just become with the national team: hungry to prove myself, ready to give everything — and not yet aware of everything that ambition can ask. Much of this book is a reflection written for him.
- 01
The ambitious beginner
At the start of an important journey, wanting to develop their potential and achieve something exceptional — and looking for guidance on discipline, belief, responsibility, recovery, relationships and avoiding unnecessary mistakes.
- 02
The ambitious person at a turning point
After years of pursuing a meaningful goal, now facing injury, rejection, exhaustion, loss, changing priorities or uncertainty about who they are — and wanting to keep growing without repeating patterns that are no longer sustainable.
Not limited to sport, and not a burnout-recovery programme.

Part I / V
The Dream
Direction, ambition, and belief.
From a great dream to a goal that gives direction, without losing sight of reality.
This part explores: where ambition begins and how a deeper purpose sets a meaningful goal.

Part II / V
The Inner Battle
Self-knowledge, vulnerability and emotional maturity.
Not every thought is true. Not every fear must disappear. The task is to choose again.
This part explores: inner criticism, fear of judgment, vulnerability, regret and the strength of a constructive answer.

Part III / V
The Breaking Point
Adversity, recovery and sustainable commitment.
When the original plan breaks, you learn to connect ambition with recovery, structure and a broader definition of excellence.
This part explores: the limits of the original plan, physical and emotional setback, sustainable ambition and accept what is beyond your control.

Part IV / V
The Rebuilding
Action, experimentation and growing again.
Talent needs direction; growth needs rhythm; A full life requires room for more than performance.
This part explores: convert insight into action through structure, small steps, curiosity, perspective and a more complete life.

Part V / V
Beyond the Player
Identity, humility, love, friendship and humanity.
The central question changes: Not just what you want to achieve, but what person you want to be on the road.
This part explores: identity beyond performance, personal values, meaningful relationships, support, communication and responsible leadership.
